About UPSC:

Union Public Service Commission is called as UPSC. It was established in the year 1926 with the intent to recruit able personnel into administrative services, Defense, Engineering Services, Medical, civil services, Police, etc. Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive exam in India conducted by UPSC for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Govt of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Revenue Service (IRS). The Civil Servicess Exam is considered to be one of the most challenging and competitive examinations in India. In past two years very less recruitment notifications released by this UPSC Commission. UPSC Exam Eligibility Criteria for Civil Services

Eligibility for Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

Nationality:

For the Indian Administrative Service a candidate must be a citizen of India

Qualification: Any degree (graduation) from:

  • any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.
  • or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament.
  • or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
  • or possess an equivalent qualification.
  • Final year students can also apply.

Age limit: For General Category candidates, upper age limit is 32 years, OBC Category is 35 years, SC/ST 37 years, physically disabled candidates 40 years. Age relaxation is applicable as per UPSC norms

No. of attempts:

  • For General Category candidate’s number of attempts is 06.
  • For OBC Category candidate’s number of attempts is 09.
  • For SC/SC Category candidates number of attempts unlimited

Eligibility for Indian Foreign Service (IFS)

Nationality: Nationality of a candidate must be either of the following:

  • A citizen of India
  • A citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Qualification:

Candidate should hold a degree from any of the recognized universities or must have an equivalent qualification.

Age limit:

Minimum age limit is 21 years and Maximum age limit is 30 years. Age relaxation is applicable as per central govt norms.

No. of attempts:

  • General Category Candidates: 4
  • OBC Candidates: 7
  • SC/ST Candidates: No restriction

Eligibility for Indian Police Service (IPS)

Nationality: Nationality of a candidate must be either of the following:

  • A citizen of India
  • A citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Qualification:

A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from any of the universities recognized by the UGC or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age limit:

Minimum age limit is 21 years and Maximum age limit is 30 years. Age relaxation is applicable as per UPSC govt norms.

  • General Category Candidates: 4
  • OBC Candidates: 7
  • SC/ST Candidates: No restriction

Eligibility for Indian Revenue Service (IRS)

Nationality: For the IRS, a candidate must be one of the following:

  • A citizen of India
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Qualification:

  • A degree from a Central, State or Deemed University
  • A degree received through Correspondence Education or Distance
  • A degree from an Open University
  • A qualification recognized by the Government of India as being equivalent to either of the above.

Age limit:

The minimum age limit for a candidate is 21 years. The upper age limit vary according to the caste reservations

No. of attempts:

  • General Category Candidates: 6
  • OBC Candidates: 9
  • SC/ST Candidates: No restriction

Physical Standards:

The Applicant must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination (CSE).
