Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll popularly known as Shakira was born on Feb 2nd 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her father was a Lebanese and mother was Colombian. So she honors both Latino and Arabic heritage in her music. She wrote her first song at the age of 8. At the age of 13 she signed her first record deal.
Career:
Her first two albums were flop. Her third album which was released in 1996, sold more than 3 million copies. With the continuous success of her albums, Shakira became super star in Spanish Language market. She is well known for strong vocals and incredible belly dance moves.
In 2001, Shakira released her first English-language album, Laundry Service which bought her huge success which she is waiting for.
