About Physics – Branches of Physics, Facts, Wiki Information

Starting to Study About Physics? It’s really difficult to define the meaning of physics in a particular way as it keeps changing by making new discoveries. New theories create new questions and answers which makes physics exciting & interesting.

It is precisely defined with the most fundamental measurements and quantities in the universe like mass, velocity, gravity, electric field and kinetic energy etc.

It finds relationships between the fundamental measured quantities which include Newton’s Laws, conservation of energy and special relativity. The patterns and correlations used in Physics are expressed using equations, graphs, charts, models and diagrams and by other means that allow us to express a relationship in a way that can be easily understandable by humans.

About Physics

Physics is a natural science which involves the study of matter, its motion and behavior through space and time along with the related concepts like energy and force. Being one of the fundamental scientific disciplines, the main goal of physics is to understand the behavior of Universe. Being one of the academic disciplines, it is perhaps the oldest discipline through its inclusion of astronomy. Physics is a part of natural philosophy along with chemistry, biology and certain branches related to mathematics. It intersects with many interdisciplinary areas of research programs like biophysics, quantum chemistry and the boundaries of physics which are not rigidly defined.

Physics makes significant contributions new advanced technologies that arise from theoretical breakthroughs. Advances in understanding of electro-magnetism and nuclear physics led to the development of new products that have transformed dramatically into television, computers, domestic appliances and nuclear weapons. Physics often explain the fundamental mechanisms of other sciences while opening new avenues of research in mathematics and philosophy. Advancement of thermodynamics also led to the development of industrialization and mechanics that is inspired to the development of calculus.

Branches of Physics

Physics is mainly divided into seven different branches and are represented below:

  • Classical Mechanics:

The branch of physics which is also called as Classical Physics is concerned with the laws of gravitation and motion of Sir Issac Newton and James Clark Maxell’s Kinetic Theory of Thermodynamics. It is also concerned with matter and energy in which they are considered as separate entities. Acoustics, Optics and electromagnetism are considered as traditional branches of Classical Physics.

  • Electro-Magnetism

Electro-Magnetism, a branch of Physics is defined as a study of electro-magnetic force which occurs between electrically charged particles. The electromagnetic force usually exhibits electric fields, magnetic fields and light and is one of the fundamental interactions in nature.

  • Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with the study of effects of work, heat and energy on a system. Thermodynamics applies to a wide variety of science of topics in science & engineering which mainly include physical chemistry, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering.

  • Modern Physics

Albert Einstein and Max Planck, pioneers of modern physics laid down the foundations of Modern Physics by introducing the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. Modern Physics is mainly concerned with the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics in which theory of relativity deals with the relationship between electromagnetism & mechanics whereas quantum mechanics deals with behavior of smallest particles.

  • Nuclear Physics

Nuclear Physics deals with the study of protons and neutrons and their constituents and interactions at the center of an atom. It helps to reveal atomic weapons, atomic power and nuclear medicine implantation in material engineering designing and a great deal more.

  • Astrophysics

Astrophysics is a branch of natural science dealing with the study of astronomical objects like stars, galaxies, planets, comets and other celestial bodies. It applies many other disciplines of physics such as electromagnetism, relativity, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics and many more. Astrophysics focuses on the laws and theories, interpretations as well as astronomical observations.

  • Optics

The branch that deals with the behaviors and properties of light and also describes the behaviors of electromagnetic radiations like Ultra-Violet (UV) and Infrared Radiation (IR) etc. Optics include three branches like Geometrical optics, which deals with study of light and light rays. Physical Optics is the study of light as waves and finally Quantum Optics deals with the study of light as particles.
